Southampton, PA — AdvantaPure announces the availability of Process Equipment Tracking, or P•E•T, an equipment identification and lifecycle analysis system. PET is designed to identify and track process equipment such as pumps, hoses, bio-bags, diaphragm valves, filters, and UV lamps. Industries that employ such equipment, and have a need for accurately tracking its use, include pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical, chemical, biomedical/biotechnology, food and beverage, and others involved in critical processes.

Using RFID (radio frequency identification) technology, PET assists with the monitoring of equipment. Usage and cleaning cycles can be tracked to ensure timely maintenance and replacement before parts begin to fail, risk product integrity, and waste time and labor. PET offers a logical, safety-conscious approach to reduce product risk and monitor all critical process components.

PET involves the attachment of RFID tags to process equipment by various methods – a molded pouch, silicone fusible tape, lamination, or watchband-style encasement – and accessing each tag’s stored information using a handheld reader/writer. Data can later be transferred to a networked computer, allowing other users to view the information. The tags are safe for use with CIP, SIP, and autoclave processes.

One of PET’s biggest advantages is its capability to help schedule maintenance and replacement dates. It eliminates the inefficient calendar method of swapping out used parts, which helps reduce wasted production life and underutilized equipment. It also reduces dependency on pen-and-paper log books and their inherent problems, such as transposed numbers, incorrect dates, handwriting legibility, misread data, misfiled documents, and security risks. Other benefits that PET offers over log books include back up of data, easier audit trail construction, password security, data access from networked computers, and the ability to sort, compare, and analyze information in different ways to determine the safe and proper useful life of process equipment.
